About:
The story began eighteen years ago when the Lawson family purchased a small hillside farm set amongst the famous Gimblett Gravels sub-region. Our sole intention was to establish a terraced hillside vineyard, producing limited quantities of premium wine.
Being a winegrower for some 20 years on the Heretaunga Plains, particularly in the Gimblett Gravels area of Hawkes Bay, I was searching for more, something a little different, a fresh challenge.
Creating unique, premium wines from the extreme slopes and limestone and clay influenced soils of the Cypress hillsides has provided this challenge. The harsh, sun-baked environment of the terraced property ensures our vines struggle, and results in low yields of intensely flavoured grapes.
